Paper piecing and machine appliqué. Machine quilted by Barbara Hutton

The blocks for this quilt were made in 1995 during a workshop with Marianna Fons at the Sievers School of Fiber Arts. Marianne's class was based on her "Fancy Fans' quilt - a 1930s reproduction piece. But I had a different vision. Prior to the workshop, I had a chance to visit China and returned with some fabulous jewel tone fabrics. I auditioned settings for this quilt for 3 years before I finally settled on my dragon theme. Then I was afraid to machine quilt it myself. I kept thinking, "I need to practice before I take on this top." In the end Barbara Hutton custom quilted it on her long-arm in 2005
